Lifespan of opened wines

Trajanje otvorenih vina - Berba

Every bottle of wine in your collection awaits the perfect opportunity to delight the palate, spark discussions, and charm with its unique flavor. Shelves carefully preserve selected wines, but our desire is for you to not only store them but also savor them. Wines don’t wait for special occasions, they are occasions in themselves.

An unwritten rule is that good wines are meant to be consumed, but there are also those that remain or you wish to preserve once opened. “How long is it recommended to store opened wine?” is a common question in the wine world.

Some wines retain their flavor for several days after opening, while others quickly lose their characteristics. Today, we will discuss how long wines can stay open and offer perfect solutions on how to enjoy wine while preserving the quality of the remainder. Whether it’s innovative systems to maintain freshness after opening or elegant solutions for enjoyment without uncorking, we’re here to preserve your wine.

Champagne and sparkling wines

Sparkling wines quickly lose their carbonation after opening, so it’s best to consume them within three days. Wines made with the traditional method, such as Champagne, can be stored for just a few days longer. Even when closed with a suitable stopper for sparkling wines, exposure to air can compromise their quality.

With the development and growing popularity of wine culture, technology for wine preservation has also advanced. When it comes to preserving opened sparkling wines, a great help can be provided by Coravin Sparkling. This system allows you to open a bottle of sparkling wine today and finish it next weekend, without fear that the taste and quality of the last glass will be altered.

Designed to preserve freshness of flavor, this system will keep sparkling wine fresh for up to four weeks. After pouring your desired amount of wine, securely place the cap on the open bottle and lock it by lifting the locking handle. Next, using the Coravin Pure Sparkling CO2 capsule, attach the charger to the cap and press it to inject the bottle with the necessary amount of CO2. Monitor the pressure indicator, red indicates the filling process, while green signals that the bottle is ready for storage.

White and rosé wines

Although light white and rosé wines can be stored for up to seven days after opening, they will change in taste due to oxidation. The overall fruity character will diminish and become less vibrant. Full-bodied white wines can last a maximum of five days after opening. These wines oxidize more quickly because they were exposed to oxygen during aging before bottling.

There is an efficient solution for preserving both fresh and full-bodied wines. The L’Atelier du Vin electric vacuum pump automatically removes air from the bottle without the need for manual pumping.

The sophisticated mechanism activates as soon as the stopper and vacuum pump are placed on the neck of the bottle. LED lights clearly indicate each step of the vacuum process until all air is extracted from the bottle. Once complete, the vacuum pump automatically shuts off, minimizing oxidation and securely preserving the wine under a hermetically sealed cap.

Red wines

Red wines with higher tannins and acidity can be stored longer after opening. Red wine with lower tannins, such as Pinot Noir, may last less than more complex wines like Syrah. Some red wines can even improve in taste after the first day of opening. However, red wines should generally not be stored open for more than five days.

Although the Coravin Six+ can be used for other wines, we specifically mention it with red wines. This wine preservation system represents cutting-edge technology that allows you to enjoy your favorite wines without removing the cork. It provides the ability to preserve still wines for weeks, months, or even years after the initial opening.

Using the product is very simple. Place the Coravin over the bottle neck and firmly press the handle to secure it. Then tilt the bottle until the wine is over the glass and quickly press the button to start pouring. The practical and efficient design allows for quick and precise pouring without spills.

Ensure longevity for your wines and open each bottle without hesitation.

Cheers!
